Official Hot Bodies TC-FD Build & Resource Thread!!

Postby Murdock » Wed Aug 31, 2011 11:35 pm

Dori!

TCFD this TCFD that... I have always driven Hot Bodies Chassis' and about a year ago or more I started drifting a TCX. I have had many other chassis' in between, and I'm currently running a Cyclone S CS. There was a lot of bad press when this chassis came out... It was late for release... The steering rack and angle inferior out of box... No major improvements from TC-D... I still love the purple!!!

The build was really fun. It took me several days as I found missing parts while build. Overall about 4 hour build time. The aluminum and CF quality is top notch. It came with a Pro-Spec ball diff! Here is a list of parts I was missing.

- Axles for the CVD
- Steering turn buckle
- Pinion gear
- Wheel nuts

Great build up report. - But that many missing parts?
And this is the steering angle out of the box, seriously??? That´s not even enough for 50/50 drifting, with a front motor setup like this! :wtf:

Thanks Davis.

I adjusted the steering angle so its much better. I ended up getting all my missing parts. I am now happy with this chassis. I thought the steering angle was a joke. LOL

What mods did you do to increase the steering angle? I recently just ordered a TC-FD and want to tackle everything beforeI assemble. Thanks

I mounted the turn buckles closer to the steering knuckle, and it gave me more angle. There is another mod you can do to give you more angle, but for now I have not cut or heavily modded it yet. If you create a wider steering rack you can also gain more steering angle.

If you find a good mod please post it here.

Thanks,

Murdock

Currently my fav is the MST MS-01D Pro Kit. Tho I love my DRB I dont drive it as much. The MS-01D Pro and DRB feel really similar. The MS-01D and DRB is very predictable, and easy to setup. ITs like these cars were designed for CS.

BUT...... I have always loved my TCFD. I love all my girls. LOL

|O| Great answer!
If I had to upgrade my TA05 V1 - which kit would you recommend?

If you were to upgrade your TA05 go with Eagle Racing kit or the Square kits those are the best in my opinion.

But.. back the TCFD. Love the car too much work to set it up like my other CS cars. Hopefully HPI will wake up and make the CS kit they advertised....

If you are still looking to do a factory CS setup, you can run this:
**edited: dead link**

I personally opted to run the yokomo parts from Katsumi for a 2.0 ratio. Katsumi needed to reverse the one way, but otherwise everything was a drop in fit with no modifications (just a 1mm shim on the rear spool).

Now I just need to mod my steering!

So I ordered the TCD CS kit. It gives about 1.5 CS. The TCD CS kit comes with a new rear belt, 32T rear pulley, 20T center rear pulley, and 16T center front pulley. I got mine from japan the part number is...

Hot Bodies 61788

Though the CS kit was made for the TCD I believe it will fit perfectly on my TCFD. At least I hope so...

Should work good. I saw on another forum (can't remember which) and the guy was saying that's the setup he used.

Have you made/plan to make any mods for the steering?

do you think it would be possible to convert a cyclone tc to this if i was to get the motor mounts, most of the parts look the same

Negative, if you had the TCX then yes. just need the motor mount, bottom and top cf chassis pieces, and steering assembly.

For the Cyclone TC you would need the TC-D motor mount, top and bottom cf chassis pieces, and steering assembly.
